US-Based New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority (NJSEA) is organizing a “Draft Hackensack Meadowlands District Master strategy 2020”. It is authority of the State of New Jersey qualified for the regional preparation and zoning of the Hackensack Meadowlands District, including Carlstadt, East Rutherford, Little Ferry, Moonachie, Lyndhurst, North Arlington, Ridgefield, South Hackensack, Rutherford, and Teterboro in Bergen County; and Kearny, North Bergen, and Jersey City, Secaucus in Hudson County. As per NJSEA spokesman Mr. Brian Aberback, this plan is intended to be general, setting policies to guide further growth and conservation efforts. Also, focus in-depth studies, such as those regarding the housing, environment, and transportation. It will offer more specific objectives to be addressed in future regulations.
The Draft Master Project is designed as an update to the “2004 NJMC Master Plan” for the District. It was described as a vision for possible economic expansion and environmental purposes over the decades. The Draft Master Plan assesses the existing conditions in the District and discusses notable changes since 2004. It preserves 8,400 acres of wetlands and open space while calling for economic and community development to restore contaminated or withered blocks. The Meadowland Regional Rules and Official Zoning Map provide a way to rebuild the Meadowlands. It highlights the accomplishments and challenges of implementing this vision. The Draft Master Plan also offers new policy objectives and recommendations for future comprehensive planning studies that will continue to promote the land use, environmental preservation, and economic development objectives for the District.
Moving forward, the NJSEA is focusing on developing and executing climate change resiliency approaches. It was made to restore and preserve the environment in and around the Hackensack River. The master plan was designed for encouraging economic development to connect waterfront green spaces. The Meadowlands District consists of 14 municipalities, from South Hackensack in Bergen County to Jersey City and Kearny in Hudson County. The other communities are East Rutherford, Carlstadt, Little Ferry, Moonachie, Lyndhurst, North Arlington, Teterboro, North Bergen, and Secaucus.
